Organize, organize, organize! Three New Year’s Resolutions in career.
Organize Work Space
I’ve been saying this Grace and it began on Monday. I came to work and began to organize my office desk. I’m walking through the steps you gave me to understand my clutter, work environment, piles and other patterns at work. I will keep you posted (no pun intended) and tell you how it goes.
Organize Priorities
Grace, I eluded to wanting a business of my own and taking time during my vacation last week to truly identify what I want out of my career. I will continue the discernment process to identify what I want, set goals, and work my plan.
Organize Time
With so much work ahead of me, I will take the time to organize my time and be as productive and efficient with the limited time I have to achieve tasks. Generally, I’m really effective in this area. I don’t like to waste time. However, there are days when I can just waste the day catching up with colleagues. What good does that do me when I have so much to complete in a day? I know I can be really productive in a short amount of time and plan to do just that. Besides, Grace, I have another career to plan. =)
Here’s to organize, organize, organize! Post-its, anyone? LOL
Guiding Lesson: LOL!!! Eve, I love your enthusiasm, drive and sense of humor. You have just as much enthusiasm for wine, chocolate and cupcakes as you do for post-its. Do you know anyone else, besides you and me, that shares the same excitement for all four? I sure don’t.
Anyway, organization is a talent. For those that have been blessed with this, find organizing invigorating and feel a sense of euphoria. I don’t quite understand because this angel was not given this gift. However, some sense of order is necessary to function plus create the future you want. Focusing on organizing your work space, your priorities and time will bring about the outcome you want.
Here are a couple of things to think about as you begin organizing.
Work Space – Don’t just look at this area as a place to work. It’s not exciting to think about going to your work space when you are trying to create a future using your talents and strengths. Those that want to continue to expand and do something that is an extension of who they are don’t have a work space but a place where they can dream, generate ideas and develop plans to implement them. This area should be a place where you are drawn to visit and stay there for hours because it awakens the creative genius within you. So organize the paper work but decorate the environment to allow you to imagine the unimaginable and bring to life what is not yet visible. Now isn’t this more exciting than just having a work space?
Priorities – Where does one begin? How do you stay on track and not allow ad hoc calls, to-do-lists, texting, emails, Facebook, sales, food, socializing or even your significant other (when you have one) distract you from what is important to you? It is so easy to be seduced by external factors and begin to view your priorities as boring and something that requires work since there you don’t get any instant gratification like you get from other things. How about you rename this category? Instead of calling it “priorities,” you call it Eve’s Spotlight.
It’s just a thought. The point is that you don’t want to look at priorities as something that will weigh you down and that requires being responsible. If you do, then you will be lured by things that take you away from being responsible. Playing is much more fun. Don’t you think? So have fun and make your priorities be in the spotlight of what can be enjoyable, entertaining and inviting. If faithful, they will bear fruit and lead you to some type of “promised land” or “pot of gold.” You get my drift.
Time – What does one say about time? Time is becoming extinct with the increase of new technology. People thought time would increase with this new era. But new technology, which is great, has become a handicap and another type of “fix” for some to feel they need to be on-line 24 hours / 7 days a week. It is like a thief that continues to rob people’s lives. Instead of learning to use it as a tool, the tool has become the puppeteer that pulls the strings. Every buzz, beep, ring entices the person and sucks up their precious time. When you look at your time, consider how you use the various forms of media. Think of how you want to allocate your time to ensure it aligns to what you want to create for yourself. Having said this, make sure you make time for yourself to renew, refresh and reinvigorate so you can continue on your journey.
Eve, I don’t want to take away any more of your time. Organization is summoning your presence. Post-its are anxiously awaiting to decorate your new area. No time to waste. So let the organizing begin.
