With songs of the season in the background, Jonathan, David and I were decorating our home with the Christmas décor. They were so excited to see The Village Collection by St. Nicholas Square set along our entertainment center. They quickly picked their stockings and placed them on the hooks that spell out “PEACE.” The warmth of the heater was on because it was a chilly evening.
The warmth in the room reminded me of the warmth of Adam’s body next to mine. I always enjoyed getting under the covers with Adam and wrapping my arms around him–feeling comfort, security, and warmth. Even more, I delighted in feeling his arms wrapped around me, few and between, but nevertheless, together and next to each other.
I miss this warmth so I decided to take the crotched blanket my grandmother had given me. I wrapped it around me and prayed to her and to God, asking each of them to embrace me with their love, comfort, and warmth. Grace, I asked God for peace and the warmth of his love to fill me that evening and everyday until I recover from this tormented situation with Adam. This evening I opted for my blanket rather than Merlot. Hope Merlot doesn’t feel like I do–alone and abandoned.
Guiding Lesson: Eve, Merlot is doing just fine. The true “Spirit” is already within you. Reaching for your grandmother’s blanket is probably more comforting, special and filled with lots of wonderful memories than any bottle of Merlot would ever provide you.
It is awfully cold recently, not very typical for your area. This weather, though very chilly, gets you into the holiday season. The irony is that the cold calls you to create a warm and cozy atmosphere not only for your home, but for your heart and your soul.
I can tell how dear your grandmother was to you. Wrapping yourself with her blanket is a great way to place yourself in a safe and loving place to keep the bitter cold away from your heart. The weather is not the only thing that you need to be shielded from. Being betrayed by Adam is similar to the cold. It can bring chills, discomfort and pain if you stay in it too long. Your grandmother’s blanket is such a perfect thing to help keep your heart from becoming numb. Why don’t you envision the blanket being your grandmother’s and God’s love that is surrounding you and protecting you like they did when you were hurt? I know you remember those days when things were not so complicated. You may be surprised to find out that God is still holding you close and never stopped.
There is so much warmth and love all around you. Taking the time to simply bask in it is what you need. Your grandmother’s blanket, no matter how old and worn out it may be, and God’s son, no matter how many times you have been told, elicits the true gift of LOVE that exists beyond the grave. This is the real “Spirit” that will give you peace on this earth.
Enjoy this moment as you sit in the warmth of your home, surrounded by your boys and enjoy a warm cup of God’s love.
