How to Benefit from an Accountability Partner

When you identify the one area you want to focus on in making a significant change in life, find an accountability partner(s) with whom you interact frequently.  The chances of you making a shift will increase dramatically. Here’s a few things to keep in mind:

1. Make sure they have your best interest and will commit to playing this role.
2. You will need to figure out how often you will talk. Try to keep it the same day and time during the week to make sure you connect.
3. Give them permission to make you aware when you are doing a good job and provide “Feedforward” not feedback when you are slipping. This means that they will provide you with suggestions or recommendations to help you in the transition (feedforward) versus just telling you what you are not doing right (feedback).  And since you chose someone you see regularly they can catch you in the moment and help you shift right there on the spot using one of their recommendation.
4. As you listen to your partner(s), really try to hold your tongue, don’t debate, simply say “thank you” and recognize it as having a life of abundance where you are open to receive everything instead of judging it.
5. Celebrate along the way.
