I decided to take a day off from work to begin journaling. Grace, with everything going on in my life, I feel the need to write down my experiences, feelings and reflections. I also needed to get a manicure and pedicure.

While I was at the salon, I decided to get a bikini wax for the first time. You know, go crazy because I’ve never done anything like that. I wanted to try something different. After talking to the aesthetician, I decided to get a full Brazilian wax. Why bother with a landing strip when you could go full monty? Cleaner, less obstruction and very low maintenance. With a high tolerance for pain, I only felt pain a few times during the waxing.

When I came home, I took a shower to take off any excess wax. I thought I might look awkward, but instead was pleasantly surprised by the touch of baby soft skin and the appearance. Having delved into something new, I thought I should continue the exploration by diving into my journal. Besides, it was the reason I took a vacation day. LOL

Guiding Lesson: Eve, all I can say is “ouch,” but how brave.  It is amazing what women do. From coloring, to plucking, to waxing, to shaving, to tanning, etc…and yet still have time to care for their children, go to work, cook a meal, go out with friends and share quality time with their man.  Oops, I forgot to include shopping.  This is impressive!

So now that you are physically clean and clear, it’s time to focus on cleaning and clearing the excess on an emotional and mental level.  Like waxing, it may be painful but then again you have courageously demonstrated the ability to withstand a “full Brazilian Wax” that I believe has prepared you to continue removing anything you don’t need or like.

Journaling is a powerful tool that helps address mental clutter, toxic emotions and spiritual darkness. If you commit to writing three one-sided pages everyday, you will find yourself discovering your bare essence, on an emotional, spiritual and mental level.  Then you will be living congruently, internally and externally.  How do you like that?  Do you think this is something that you can commit to in the morning, evening, at lunch, during a break at work?  I promise that you will experience a transformation like any good practice.  When you write, I recommend you follow the “Artist Way” approach plus a touch of Grace’s method.  This method will help you begin to deepen your relationship with God and get in touch with yourself.  Let me know what you think.

Journal Everyday

Artist Way – Write as soon as you wake up so plan on having a pen and paper near your bed.  You need to write without stopping to let all the clutter out on paper.

Grace’s Way – Start by addressing each day:  Dear God or however you address your Divine creator.  This helps in knowing on a spiritual level that someone actually cares about hearing your concerns, worries, joys, excitement, frustrations, etc.

How

Artist Way – Choose a journal that is fitting for you and beginning writing.

Grace’s Way – When there are no words that flow, pick up your pen, pencil, marker or crayon and draw.  One idea:

a. Draw a cross and place whatever is weighing you down in the inside (areas:  Emotional, Physical, Mental, Relationships, Occupational, Spiritual, Financial or you can choose from the areas of Marriage, Motherhood, Career and Divorce)

b. Once you are done filling in the cross with your concerns, begin to write what you need or what grace is waiting from above to help you on the outside of the cross.  This will help you realize that there is an answer and God will work with you.

Best Time to Journal

Artist Way – First thing in the morning to clear you mind so your creativity will flow from within you.

Grace’s Way – Remember, journaling is a form of prayer because you are calling forth that which is within, which is also where God dwells.  You know yourself so pick a time of day that you know you can commit to on a daily basis.

a. Morning – Starts out your day by removing everything that prevents you from receiving God’s blessings and graces. And don’t forget to be grateful.

b. Afternoon – Allows you to release and become aware of any disturber (person, emotion or event) that you may have encountered or it may be a simple letter telling God what’s happening to you. And don’t forget to be grateful.

c. Evening – Ends your day by sharing the events that took place. And don’t forget to be grateful.

Environment

Artist Way – Simply commit

Grace’s Way –

a. Light a candle as a visual reminder that God is light and can cast out any darkness.  God will illuminate your path so you can see your next step.  God is the warmth you need when the world around is cold.

b. Play instrumental music that helps bring you home to your heart.

Advanced Journaling – I’ll leave this for another time.
