I decided I’m not waiting until I turn forty to treat myself to a breast lift and a breast implant. I deserve to get them done now. Why wait? Adam and I can both enjoy them sooner rather than later. And, evidently, Adam likes big boobs and never told me. I know we have money in the savings account and I’m going to use it for me. Call me selfish. But you know what, Grace, I nursed two babies, gravity is doing its magic, and when I lay down my boobs just fall to the side. I really don’t like the way they look and I think, as long as I’m doing a complete makeover, I might as well get the breast lift and breast implants.

After all that I’ve been through and now going through with Adam, I deserve something I’ve been wanting. And I don’t feel I should have to wait any longer. Some men buy their wives new wedding rings after their infidelity; mine’s just buying me a new set of breasts.

To tell you the truth, Grace, I want him to repair my wedding ring too. One of the prongs that holds up the diamond is loose, but he hasn’t. I think he really doesn’t care anymore. After telling him numerous times how much it means to me to have the wedding ring fixed, I feel like he is ignoring my feelings and the meaning behind it. Clearly, he isn’t making an effort to show me he listens to me, validates my feelings, or cares about the symbolism of wedding rings.

I’m really looking forward to getting a breast lift and a breast implant. I told myself I was going to get them done when I turn forty, but a few years, here and there, who’s counting? I’m certainly not counting years or dollars…off to the doctor’s I go.

Guiding Lesson: Eve, I understand your desire to be drawn to wanting a breast lift and breast implant.  My question is:  Do you really know the motivation for this augmentation?  I know you gave your reasons.  I am asking you to go deeper.  What do your breasts symbolize to you?  How connected are they to your idea of what it means to be feminine, to be a woman?  Do they help you feel whole, accepted and loved?  If you continue to search you may find a very different reason why you chose this area to focus on rather than other areas.

As you speak, I sense that you have an understanding of the incredible role that breasts play in women’s lives.  As little girls, the breasts are the beginning of telling the world they are transitioning into womanhood.  Young girls wait as their breast begin to emerge like a plant that sprouts from the soil.  The first signs are exciting, but also may be a little awkward as to what it means to have these two protruding elements project themselves into the world beyond their bodies.

In the role of motherhood you were blessed to experience the true power of what your breasts could do.  They served to feed and nourish your children to help their little bodies develop and grow.  They were the main life-source for your little ones.  In fact, your breasts were overly generous in producing an abundance, an overflow of milk.  This time in your life allowed you to connect with them on a new level and understand that they helped create a special bond between you and your sons.

Now that your body and mind have entered a new phase, what purpose do your breasts have?  As a married couple, enjoying and exploring each other’s bodies is part of entering into deeper communion with one another.  What importance did you place on them prior to motherhood and what role do they have now?  Have they increased in their significance because of what is happening between you and Adam?  Do you see them as having the potential or power to seduce him into your arms, your heart and you marriage?

A woman’s breasts are powerful because they are the part of the body that provide a hint of the feminine.  Some breasts seem to be shouting out “Look at me.  Look at me.”  Others don’t seem to care and are more integrated with the body.  Some actually get in the way when competing in sports.  And yet others have endured tremendous suffering and have fallen in the hands of an unexpected guest called cancer.  The breasts are part of the body, but have great impact on the mind and the spirit of a woman.

So, Eve, what are your breasts trying to say?  What type of connection do they have to your body, your mind and your spirit?  Don’t answer this too quickly.  Think about it.  Your feminine nature is taking on a new form. Allow it to get comfortable and to explore what this means so it will rise up and express itself confidently within you.
